Art Omi Pavilions @ Chatham will realize 18 individual pavilions across a hilltop site of 190 acres in Chatham, New York. Once completed, Art Omi Pavilions will invite visitors to explore the individual Pavilions, which will display legacy stand-alone exhibitions of highly distinguished artists and collectors who will showcase their work in a setting that they control and design. These Pavilions will be part of a larger art center, including a visitor center and rotating exhibition Pavilion, which will provide cultural context, museological standards, and visitor services.
The visitor experience of self-guided exploration will be informed by the landscape of woodlands, meadows, and 360-degree Hudson Valley views, intermingled with unique built structures by world-class architects, all activated by dynamic artworks. It is an innovative, singular concept in the art world that seeks to serve the need for self-realized legacy for artists and collectors by addressing the challenge of preserving the aesthetic coherence of an artist’s oeuvre or collection.
The Alice Aycock Pavilion is currently under construction, opening to the public in Fall 2026. It was designed by Alice Aycock and her team, including Philip Castillo from Jahn Studio, Chicago, Noel Hernandez of Matter Workshop, Bill Wallace of Wallace Architecture, NY, and Timothy Schroder of Enginuity Engineering & Design, PLLC.
As a sculptor who has worked since the 1970s, Aycock has many works in the public domain. However, she has not been able to store and conserve many of her large-scale installations. Moreover, many of her early land art works have either been destroyed or require major restoration. Under Aycock’s supervision, her team will be reconstructing and restoring these important works. The pavilion will host rotating museum-scale exhibitions of her work. In addition to pivotal works from her career, an archive of unbuilt proposals as well as design documents will have a permanent home in this building, where researchers and students may visit to view. She also has plans for creating a “final” new work which will be a summation of many of her ideas that she has dealt with over a 50-year career.
